I need to be able to show the current month selected by default in the List Box, so as the months progress the current month will always be selected. Does anyone know how I go about doing this?

There are several ways to get it. You can Settings menu, Document Properties, Triggers, On Open, Add a new Action, Select in Field, Month as field name (or whatever your month field is called) and the following as search string
=Month(Today())
