*** Unable to open my own QVW files (QV Personal Edition) ***

Hello All,

This might be a known issue but I'm struggling to fix it. I have installed QlikView 11 personal edition on my home system. I have created few QVW files and everything went well until I have tried to re-opened the same files. I can't re-open the files and I did not even close QlikView instance nor restarted my system. Then I have thought this is something to do with lincensing. So I have uninstalled, restarted the system and re-installed the same. Then I have tried the same... created new QVW files (Not opening old files from old installation). These brand QVW files I can't re-open them once I close them. I am getting the generic error message and I am not sure if there is a registry setting to clear the lincenses. Please can someone help on this issue?

Miguel/ John/ Karl/ Erich - Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers - DV

Dear All,

Thanks for trying to help me. I have managed to fix the issue. I have uninstalled QV again and also made sure that the folders are removed from Program Files. Then I have removed the registry entries under QlikTech folder. Then I have restarted the system and check the registry again to make sure. And finally reinstalled QV 11 and tried to save and re-open the files and it works now. I am not sure what has caused this strange problem but it works now.

Thanks again for your time.

I know next to nothing about licensing, personal edition or v11.  I installed v10 personal edition at home for personal use, but have not had any problems reading my own personal files.  I assume you're saying that the message is wrong and that you have not used the recovery feature repeatedly?

Hi John,

I have used the recovery feature in the past. I guess a week back and then it had the same problem. So I have decided to upgrade to version 11 and then started to use QV 11. Then started to have the problem again. So I have reinstalled again but the problem still persist.

Any help on this is really appreciated. I am hitting the brick and can't think of any reason why it won't work. Although, I can still open QV sample files without any issue. I am suprised that I can't open my own files. That's really strange to me.

Thanks again for offering help.

Hi,

I guess each time you install qlikview personal edition, it allots a unique key for that user. So even if you open your own file which you have developed using QV installed long back, new QV is treating those files as files developed by another user. It will allow for few files(i guess it is 4). later it will not allow to open any file.

QV sample files can be opened by any user. I guess there is no unique key for those files.

I think the only solution is to develop new file or get developer license. You cannot open your old files.

You will need to purchase a full QlikView Lisence.

Hi Anitha,

Sorry for the confusion. I guess I was not clear in explaining. I am not opening the files which are created by previous installation. Let's say I have opened QV and then if I save a empty QVW file on desktop or any other location. Then if I close the file and if I try to reopen the file immediately, I would get the above message. This is strange behaviour and I have reinstalled QV couple of times.

I don't think purchasing QlikView Lincense for this reason is justified. Any someone please help? Or how can I contact QlikTech support?

Thanks - DV

Hi Kamiya,

Have you tried to remove registry entries (Please be very careful when dealing with registry). And please try to remove all the folders after uninstalling QlikView. I'm pretty sure this should work. Meanwhile, I'll wait to see if someone can help.

Cheers,

DV
