I have inherited some documents from a report developer who is now retired. There are already CAL setting on the QMC for these documents. I have the Named CAL and our server version is 11.20 SR8. Also my AD has same permission and setting as previous report developer.
I am encountering an issue that once I hit save button on QlikView Desktop, the "Save as" window will pop up and any .qvw I saved will not be accessible by users (even other Named CAL) from front end (AccessPoint) except me. Even though I just open the .qvw we are currently using on server and do nothing but only hit the "save" button, same thing happened. I have to restore the older version of .qvw files so that users could using them.
We have tested several scenarios and none of them work.
- Either I directly open the .qvw file on server we are currently using and save it (looks like it's been overwritten), or copy it on server and hit save, or copy it to my local computer and hit save and copy it back to server.
- We've tried to remote to QV server and using QVserver AD to do all of above, this time even I cannot access the document at front end.
- If we only copy the .qvw on server and not hitting save, it would be accessible by Named CAL (since I am just testing and didn't assign CALs)
- We found that the owner of the document (right click on the .qvw file > properties > security > advance) is changed to me if I hit save on my local computer no matter it is the .qvw on server or a local copy. We tried to set the owner back to QVserver and checked all the users permission but it's still not accessible at front end. Also when we remote to the server and using QVserver AD to do it, the owner remain QVserver but it's still not accessible at front end.
- We found that the size of .qvw shrink a little bit after I hit save. ChatGPT indicates that it may be the server not identify me as the document owner so our section access in .qvw kind of being scrambled and failed so part of section access is removed and lead to size shrinking and users not able to access. It suggested me to ask administrator/publisher to add me into document owner. However, our server doesn't have those options on QMC due to server version and we don't have a publisher. We are not sure is this the right solution and also we don't know how to do it.
Have anyone encountered similar issue before? We've asked our QV consultant and he hasn't known this issue and cannot find a solution. Currently we cannot modified or adjust anything in our reports because once I hit save nobody could view it at front end. Thanks
It sounds like a section access issue.
If your app has section access then only the data set that is defines as available to you will be loaded into the application when you open it. Because of that your app size will shrink unless you're entitled to access all data.
So when you hit the save button with less data, then your app will be saved with your filtered data set only.
A way around this is to reload the application before you store it. As the SA is applied when opened it will not be applied on data you load into the application while having it open.

Hi Vegar,
Thank you for replying.
As I know, I should have access to all the data but I am not 100% sure since I am not part of IT team so I have to check. But it's weird that this also happened when I used QVserver AD on the server to hit save.
I still have a question, you suggested that I reload the application before store it. Do you mean reload in QlikView Desktop or the reload function (I did notice that there is a "reload immediately" button) in QMC?
I appreciate your help.
Hi Vegar,
I tried reloading before I hit save and it works, thank you a lot, we've investigated in this issue for months.

I am glad it worked out for you.
Qlik doesn't treat a service account differently than a regular account. So if the SA is defined wrongly for any of the two it will reduce the app when opening.
Warning: if you are playing around testing your SA, please make sure you have a backup of the app. (Preferably a copy where SA is turned off) It is possible to completely lock your self out of a Qlikview application if you do the wrong config of your SA table.
