Comparing Data on a Day by Day Basis

I'm having a few issues in comparing data between a day in YTD and a day in the previous YTD.

For example, we want to be able to compare a day of the week to that same day of the week last year -  2017-01-01 (a Sunday) versus the same Sunday in 2016, which was actually 2016-01-03

I've tried to create a "key" using the week number and the day value, which got me part of the way there - I was at least able to compare 2017-01-01 and 2016-01-01 in the same table, but getting to the same "day" is eluding me!

Apologies if this is a fairly simple ask, Qlik is quite new to me!

Which day of  2016 can be considered as "same day of the week last year" of 2017-01-06 (a Friday) in your requirement:

• Is it 2016-01-01 because it is the first Friday of 2016 (like 2017-01-06 is the first Friday of 2017), OR
• Is it 2016-01-08 because Sunday 2016-01-03 is the equivalent of Sunday 2017-01-01?
