Extension Problems

I am trying to use this extension: https://github.com/ralfbecher/QlikSense_Extension_Timeline

but I am not familiar with item types. Do I have to create a new variable and define the value as string or what am I supposed to do?

It is simply what you want to display: a box (a rectangle which is the default) or as a point, a range or a background of some sort. Go with the default and see how it looks like when switching to point...you will quickly understand....
