Filter List based on Text Field

In Qlik Sense Desktop I would like to create a pick list or filter based on values found in a description field which is text.

Either that or display in a bar chart the totals spent again based on a string inside of this text field.

I'm not sure if I can do that or how to do that.

There are a bunch of string functions that are accessible through expressions in Qlik Sense. Can you post some samples of your data outlining which piece of it you need to retrieve ?
