Migrate Apps Between Environments - June 2017 to May 2021

Hello All,

Hoping you can help.

We have a current Qlik version of June 2017 and we've deployed a new May 2021 Qlik Sense server and now we are ready to migrate the apps between the two environments, being sure to keep ALL app objects within each app. We aim to do this on a stream by stream basis and then make further config changes to the sites the analytics is displayed on.

We have hit a blocker where we believe the import app cannot be migrated on the fly once imported and we are getting an error when trying to access the app within the hub.

How to work around this error in the most efficient way is what we are after. It's also worth noting that the load scripts on the new server have different data connections to that of the old one. So once imported we will overwrite the apps with a new version when the unapprove apps etc has been achieved.

During testing this method we believe worked and now doesn't, but we have upgraded from a 2019 version on the new qlik server.

Our current process and understanding to migrate an app was the following.

Go to OLD Analytics QMC > APP
Copy APP ID you want to Copy
On OLD Server, go to X:\XXX\Apps and search APP ID
Copy File to Desktop
Change file extension on desktop to .qvf by editing the filename
Go to NEW Analytics QMC > APP
Press Import
Change the APP Name to the required report name
Import
Publish the APP to stream
Go into the Hub, and into the APP (this is where we getting error)
Unapprove any APP which isn't a base sheet / public sheet
Go to NEW QMC and amend the App Objects to the required owners, otherwise all imported objects will be the imported user.

Is this the best way to migrate an app anyway?
