Prevent a chart from acting like a filter

Hello community,

I have a Qlik app with several tabs containing cross-cutting filter dimensions. The issue is that each tab has time-series line charts, and I need to prevent users from filtering the time dimension via the X-axis of those charts—is this possible? I need them to use only the filters I provide at the top. I’ve read about people overlaying transparent objects on the X-axis, but I can't seem to place one object on top of another... I'm not sure how to do it.

Hopefully someone has an idea...Just to clarify, I am not saying the chart should react to one dimension and not others. I need the chart not to act as a filter.

you can ignore selections made on the x-axis dimension using set analysis
suppose the dimensions is trx_date
then in your expression you would write for example sum({<trx_date>}Amount)

Thanks for your answer. So the point here is to adapt all other KPIs and charts adding all the exclusions? It’s not about doing something to the chart itself, but rather how everything else behaves when select the chart's x-axis, right?

yes that's the way it is
back then when I worked in QlikView charts had the property called read-only that prevents users from making selections on the charts.
In Qlik Sense this property is not available so the only workaround is to work on the expressions

what you can do also is put the fields that you want to exclude in a variable:
ex: vExcludeColumns: field1, field2, field3
in the expressions you write sum({<$(vExcludeColumns)>}Amount)
in this way if you want to add or remove a dimension you do in the variable and the modification will be reflected in all charts that you use vExcludeColumns variable

@IsaacC in response to your point about overlaying transparent images over the line chart's x-axis, you can put your line chart into a layout container, fill the entire container with the chart, then add a "text & image" object into the container and reshape it until it covers just the x-axis, and then create a measure in that object that is:

='' (that's two single quotes, btw)

...so that the object stays blank when rendered.

Now you should be able to see only the line chart and be unable to select dates from the line chart.
