Qlik Sense SaaS. Duplicate or Download a Published App

Long story short, we had someone leave the company and the only good quality version of the app we have is the Published one.  We need to find a way to get the published app back into our Development area to be able to make updates to it. Is that possible and how?

Other Notes:

We have tried everything including turning on the former employees access and getting into their development space but the app 'acts like it is in published mode', it wont let us see the data load editor, move sheets, duplicate the app, move the app, change owners of the app, any of that.  The above question is our only last recourse to recover the up to date version of this app.

Thanks for any and all help or suggestions.

Hi mrbenass,

You may use PowerShell to move the app from Managed space to your personal space. The operation will retain the sheets and bookmarks. Steps are listed in the below article:

https://community.qlik.com/t5/Knowledge/Qlik-Sense-Enterprise-SaaS-Unpublish-an-app-with-the-REST-AP...

Going forward, you could set up an automation to export the app to your GitHub as a backup every time it's published to avoid such a situation. Below documents provide instrucitons for that:

I hope this helps. Let me know!

Thanks everyone for all the help.  We tried these suggestions with no luck. It was easier to just re-build the app from scratch, but definitely a situation that Qlik needs to find a better solution for in Saas.

Thanks, we tried that yesterday.  That did not 'UnPublish' the app the way we had hoped.  What that did more was 'move the app to the Personal folder without unlocking the data load editor'.  So this solution actually broke things more than it helped things.  What we would need is something that would act more like the 'Duplicate' function that would 'unlock' the app and move a copy into our Dev space.

Setting up the GitHub is on our roadmap, but we have not gotten to that yet.  Thanks for both the suggestions though.

Hi mrbenass,

Thanks for the response. Once the app was moved to Personal space, have you assigned the new owner for the app?

Yes we changed over the owner, but the Data Load Editor was still not available to us as the new owners.  Its like it was still 'locked' like a published app.   ☹️

Hi Mrbenass, if you have the qlikadmin rights, we can publish or duplicate the app from qmc, then what might be the error that you are facing while duplicating the app.

Trial and error is the key to get unexpected results.

In the Saas version I do not see an option to duplicate the app from the QMC.  Screenshot 2022-09-02 124416.png

Please check this out there are some good option and explanation as well. Also, If you don't have contract with the owner/developer, then a ContentAdmin can change the owner of the app from the Console. From there, you can make a copy and move the original app back to its original owner

Trial and error is the key to get unexpected results.
