Rangesum x to y problem

Hello,

I am facing a difficulty and not sure if it is possible to simplify.

I have this dataset. and would like to sum from a1 to a3  | a3 to a6 | a5 to a6   etc.. always the sum of following values.

is there a simpler way to rangesum by defining the beginning and and column where we may have many of them in the range ?

a1	13
a2	12
a3	34
a4	23
a5	313
a6	45

I think the simplest way would be to group the type's in an extra field - either very simple with an appropriate mapping or if I understand it right that the type's should be assigned in an overlapping manner to multiple groups an as-of-table would be most useful to get such a grouping:
