Should I make use set analysis for flag YTD ?

i am aware  that there are 2 way to flag YTD sales amount , one approach is SET ANALYSIS load script , another way is not using SET Analysts which the expression is shorter and less complicated.

Can some one share with me which is the more recommended approach ?

Any more complicated calculation at script level will be faster than in front end.
