background set analysis issue qlik sense

Hi

i have the following as the normal set analysis for my table 

1. Count({$<date_of_order = {'>=$(=vPreviousMonthStart) <=$(=vPreviousMonthEnd)'}>}[OrderID])

2. then in the background for that column i have an if statement to colour certain dates based on condtions i.e if date is this week, its red, next week yellow, and anything before that green. 

but now all dates are being returning all dates in the table as it looks like the 1. is being ignored..

any ideas how to resolve please
