what is the security token

while establishing the connection, what is the field security token. How is it generated?

Hi,

When i am trying to establish a connection with salesforce(by right clicking) then it is asking for a username and pwd which i believe is salesforce credentials and then it is asking for security token about which I need some information. From where will it be generated.
