Australian Statistical Areas
Hi
Is there layer support in QlikGeo for Australian Statistical Areas e.g. SA2 , we have a requirement to layer SA2 data onto maps and so far I have not had any success , I have attempted various methods to do this, but each one results in a "Unsuccessful location lookup".
Any Aussie Qlik Geo devs tried this ?
Thanks
Paul

Hi Paul,
I use SA2 fairly regularly but there's no Australian Statistical Geography Standard (ASGS) support in QGA currently (though we have certainly requested it since way back when QGA was first introduced). Instead I've downloaded the shape files from the ABS site and loaded them via the geoanalytics connector. The shape files are very detailed however so I've typically had to simplify them (again via the GA connector) or make sure that the layer is only visible once a small number of SA2's is possible. Alternatively you can use a tool such as QGIS to simplify the shape files and convert to KML.
Cheers,
Rod

Hi Rod,
Thanks for the clue, I will look at your suggestion.
Sure would be nice for QGA to support ASGS.
Cheers
Paul

Hi Rod,
Given my relative inexperience in QGA and detailed mapping , can I impose on you with another question please ?
Do you have any quick steps that you can share so I can get my mapping working quickly with these ABS areas.
Many thanks
Paul

Hi Paul,
Here's a link to pre compiled SA1, SA2, SA3 and SA4 dated 2011 areas from ASGS,
https://app.box.com/s/rrz8dbtjl3n1sh2nhp2wkk2d1vy6ocnr
Please review the sample app for usage.
The folder contains copyright and source information.
Note, it is not difficult to create import the areas from source to QVD using the Simplify operation the QGA connector.
The only hurdle is that the ASGS source areas contains malformed polygons with zero size that needs to be pruned first.
Thanks,
Patric

I've also supplied Paul with the QVDs for the 2016 ASGS with all the malformed polygons corrected.

Hi Patric, I have just loaded and tested the SA2.QVD from your link, this is looking great thus far.
Thanks
Paul
