Talend Open Studio for Big Data 6 does not start correctly

The new edition of Talend Open Studio for Big Data 6 (TOS_BD-20150702_1326-V6.0.0.zip) does not start completely. I get into the project selection screen. After clicking on "finish" the following ERROR appears and
the studio does not start.
I am in a restricted company network and so the application will not be able to get an internet connection.
java.lang.NullPointerException

    at org.eclipse.jface.operation.ModalContext$ModalContextThread.run(ModalContext.java:122)
This issue appears regardless for existing project, new projects or imported demo projects. I also tried different downloads and unzip tools.
Best regards,
  Chris

We're in the process of updating our documentation and actually java 8 is not a requirement but is strongly recommended because Java 7 is end of life and no longer supported by Oracle.
Would you mind checking out the following article: https://help.talend.com/display/KB/Requiring+a+JDK+installation+to+build+jobs+starting+from+version+...
and try to set your JDK in the Talend preferences.
Let me know if this makes a difference.

Hello Elisa,
I would be happy to try what you suggested. Unfortunately it's not possible since the problem with the NullPointerException occurs during the startup of Talend (when I try to create or start a project), so Eclipse never starts and hence I cannot access its preferences.
Since I have already spent almost one day to get Talend Open Studio 6.0.0 up and running - without success - I decided to go back to version 5.6.2 (whose commercial counterpart is also installed in our smart data lab) and wait for the next version of Talend 6.
Regards
Stephan

Hi,
You must change your maven settings to enable it to pass through your proxy server and download the needed libraries.
Create or edit your maven settings file in  ~/.m2/settings.xml or c:\users\\.m2\settings.xml
Here you have an example of a simple settings.xml file, adapt it to your particular case:
<SETTINGS xmlns="">
  xmlns:xsi=""
  xsi:schemaLocation="
                      ">
  <LOCALREPOSITORY></LOCALREPOSITORY>
  <INTERACTIVEMODE></INTERACTIVEMODE>
  <USEPLUGINREGISTRY></USEPLUGINREGISTRY>
  <OFFLINE></OFFLINE>
  <PLUGINGROUPS></PLUGINGROUPS>
  <SERVERS></SERVERS>
  <MIRRORS></MIRRORS>
  <PROXIES>
   <PROXY>
      <ID>example-proxy</ID>
      <ACTIVE>true</ACTIVE>
      <PROTOCOL>http</PROTOCOL>
      <HOST></HOST>
      <PORT></PORT>
      <USERNAME></USERNAME>
      <PASSWORD></PASSWORD>
      <NONPROXYHOSTS>www.google.com|*.example.com</NONPROXYHOSTS>
    </PROXY>
  </PROXIES>
  <PROFILES></PROFILES>
  <ACTIVEPROFILES></ACTIVEPROFILES>
</SETTINGS>

Could you please help us with this issue that is blocking us from launching Talend 6 ? What are the steps needed to fix the problem, please?

Hi guys,
Please take a look at the related issue: https://jira.talendforge.org/browse/TDI-33091
Could you please try these solutions mentioned on the ticket?

Clean the .m2 repository / restart the studio

Try to remove all the files like "*.lastUpdated" from the repository

Feel free to let us know if it works.
Best regards
Sabrina

I was able to fix the issue on my side by using a computer outside my company network and proxy.
I installed Talend 6.0 on the outside company computer and copied all the ".m2" folder located in "c:\users\*username*\" to a flash drive, then copied the ".m2" folder in the flash drive to the "c:\users\*username*\" in the computer inside my company network.
After doing all this... I was able to start Talend 6.0, hope this helps....
Note: replace *username* with your current computer profile username

Hello xdshi,
I tried your proposal. It does not work and leaded to the same error. Could you provide a static package of files for maven for people behind the proxy.
I found two ways to solve my issue:
- Maven Mirror (Naxus) within our company
- Maven proxy config http://www.mkyong.com/maven/how-to-enable-proxy-setting-in-maven/
I have now repository but it is 2,7MB which is too big for this forum. repository.zip.001.zip.zip repository.zip.002.zip.zip Please remove the last .zip of both files.
