Everyone, I am trying to connect my tenant to Claude and I set up the MCP server, however when attempting to connect, I get the following persistent error:
Authorization with the MCP server failed. You can check your credentials and permissions. If this persists, share this reference with support: "ofid_b03c5be70e48e2ab"
All clues, insight & help welcome! Thank you kindly in advance!!
The user that connects with Qlik Cloud from Claude to authorize the connection must have explicitly added the permission mcp:execute. Note that even if you are a Tenant Admin you may not have this permission enabled for you.
Thank you Miguel, much appreciated. Just one clarification if you happen to know: is that permission simply not granted by design/policy? I expect you will be having an increasing number of customers requesting this, so it might not make a lot of commercial sense to deny it.
Our approach is to make Qlik Cloud as flexible as possible, to cover as many uses cases as our customers have. As administrator of the tenant, you need to put a lot of attention into roles and permissions, as you would do with any other software. So yes, not granting is by default and by design.
Enabling any permission on by default could cause more chaos than flexibility benefits. For example, since questions and MCP calls are part of the license, you could have a very small subset of users consuming all the questions in one go, because the permission was given by default.
I understand, thank you Miguel. I am not the Admin, though, just an end user asking as a customer of yours. I appreciate the technical aspect you highlight, however having customers frustrated may not just be the best compromise - I know it does not work in my business; the customer just walks.
