Named and Document CALs, and the NPrinting Designer, are assigned to an identified user and may not be transferred to another user unless the transfer is due to a i) termination of employment, or ii) a transfer of the prior user to a new business unit or group resulting in no access to the Qlik Software. When a Named User or Document CAL is transferred, there is a 7-day quarantine before the CAL can be used by another user.
Example 1: If a Document CAL is assigned to a QVW, but a user hasn't opened the QVW to claim the Document CAL, that Document CAL can be transferred to another document without incurring the quarantine period. Once the Document CAL has been claimed by a user, moving that Document CAL to another document will incur the quarantine period.
Example 2: If an end-user has leased two licenses from the QlikView server to license their Desktop client, they will not be able to lease another license from a 3rd machine until the 7-day quarantine for one of their (unused) licenses has expired.
The 7-day period was introduced in the following versions:
QlikView 11.20 SR16
QlikView 12.00 SR6
All versions going forward from QlikView 12.10 IR
Previous to these versions, the quarantine was 24 hours. While our policy on the conditions under which a reallocation may occur has not changed, we have, discovered some customers are using tools provided by 3rd parties to facilitate the reallocation users in a way that is in breach of Qlik license terms. As a result, in order to help ensure compliance with our published terms we have made the decision to align our quarantine periods across our software offerings and are now increasing the quarantine period for QlikView Named and Document CALs from 24 hours to 7 days.
