From how I read this it looks like your variable or variables are not set correctly or not set at all when opening the app.
the can be easily fixed via multiple options:
1. opening the specific sheet, you can add a sheet action that every time the sheet is opened a variable is set to a specific value (or expression) (see screenshot below)
2. create a bookmark with the opening condition. and let this bookmark be the default (when opening for the first time) bookmark.
every time a user opens the app (it doesn't have to be on that sheet) the variable is set.
