Disable selection in the secondary dimension of a stacked bar chart

Hi All

I have a scenario where I'm making selections in a stacked bar chart, I want to select the primary dimension even when the measure value is 1 and not have any selections in the second dimension.

Please help.

I don't understand the problem. If I click on a bar segment from a stacked bar chart with two dimensions I only select the value of the first dimension. Perhaps you're using a different version of QS. I'm using the November 2018 release.

Hi Gysbert

It does select the first dimension until the measure value reduces to 1. Post which it is selecting the second dimension.

I'm sorry, but I have no idea what you're trying to say.

What do you mean by 'until the measure value reduces to 1'?

And what does 'Post which it is selecting the second dimension' mean?

Sure, I will quote an example here

Lets say I have data as below:

Cart, Fruits, Season, Price
A, Apple, Summer, 100
A, Banana, Summer, 20
A, Kiwi, Rainy, 10
B, Kiwi, Rainy, 40

Now if I create a stacked bar with my primary dimension as Season and secondary dimension as Fruits. I will get two bars, one for Summer and one for Rainy. I also add a filter here for Cart.

If I select value A in Cart, I would have Summer and Rainy with Apple, Banana and Kiwi showing sum of Summer as 120 and Rainy as 10. If I make any selections in the bar, Season filter is selected. But if I select value B in my cart filter, I would have only Rainy with Kiwi showing value as 40. If I make selection into the bar again, this time, not the Season but the fruit is selected. I don't want this to happen.

I think I have made this clear now.

This happens because in Cart B, there's only one season, Rainy, thus it defaults the selection to the Fruit in this season.

If you'd add, for example, Orange to Cart B with season as Summer, it'll select the season Rainy (when clicking on the Rainy - Kiwi bar), when you have selected Cart B. So this is normal behaviour for the selections in the bar chart.
