I am new to Qlik and only have the free version. Support will not help me at all and has directed me to the community. As a potential buyer of this software I am initially finding this to be a red flag for making a purchase.
I am trying to connect to a SQL server with the Microsoft SQL Server connection. Below are screen shots of the setup filled in with generic property values along with a meaningless error message. I have tried pretty much every possible combination of server credentials I know. I have used server name, ip addresses, local sql user credentials, windows user credentials, etc... I know the credentials are valid but no matter what I try entering, the same exact error message is the result.
Clicking on the question mark in the upper right hand corner takes you to the link directly below which really offers no help whatsoever. I doesn't even follow along with the actual wording as the connection setup.
I have searched the community and found a few discussions that are similar in nature but none have been helpful to get to a solution. Can anyone offer some advice on getting the SQL server connection working.
I tried at my end and do not see any problem.
We can use both ODBC and OLE. Attached screenshot i used OLE
Try creating the same sql connection in excel to confirm your details you are using are correct.
I always use the server IP address in my credentials.
This response is not related to the type of connection I am trying to make but I have tried an OLE DB connection and that is not successful either.
I found the issue but I don' have a solution for it. In order to connect to the server, I need use a "\" in the server property field. servername\sqlservername or ipaddress\sqlservername
I tested both scenarios with the server name and the ip address of the server in excel as suggested by Andy Weir and they connect.
When I put the "\" in the server property of the Microsoft SQL Server connection, I lose the ability to even click the "Create" button on the connection.
See below. In the first screen print, the "Create" button is grayed out. In the second screen print, the "Create" button is not grayed out but that type of value is not going to get me connected.
Hi
Some characters are not allowed in connection name, please remove '\' in name of connection,
Regards
An Pham
I changed the connection name as recommended and I am able to click on the Create button now but I still receive the same error message. I was able to get an OLE DB connection connected but the Microsoft SQL Server connection still does not connect using the same credentials as the OLE DB connection.
Dear Greg,
Had you tried to pass the credentials with the domain attribute?
Did you test a "telnet" command through TCP port 1433?
The easy way to create a new data connection is testing from the SQL Local server then copying the configurations to another computer.
I have the same exact issue. I was able to get the OLE DB connection with same credential the MS SQL Server connection is rejecting.
try to check
if its disabled you cant connect it .
