Hi
How do you grant access to other users to use a data connection you have created?
The Sense help says "To give access to the data connection to other users than the owner, edit the connection or go the Security rules page."
I can't really see where to do it neither in "Data connection edit" or "Security rules" page ...
Can someone give me a hint, please?
Hello GandalfGray - to make sure of a few things.
If a user has been granted the ContentAdmin role - they will have access to ALL of the defined connections excluding the Folder-type (files) connection.
Is that sufficient for your use case or would you like to lock down specific connections to specific users / roles / groups etc?
If the latter - this can be done by setting up a new security rule.
I will provide you with some steps, once I learn more about which it is you would like to do.
Regards,
Mike T
Hmm
When logged in as a user (let's say MisterX) with ContentAdmin role, I do not have Data connections created by another user available, even though MisterX is listed under that connections associations with Read, Update permissions.
The first thing we would like is to be able to create one oledb data connections which all developers could use.
As it is now each developer must creates his own connection...

OK cool - I need to check the ContentAdmin role suggestion again. (unless security rules were modified in some way) - a ContentAdmin role should have access to all connections regardless who creates them, but I will verify this again.
In regards to what you want to do - that can be achieved using the security rules (system rules) section in the data connection section of the QMC. Once the connection is created you can add a rule for which users and attributes you want to have access to it.
I am creating a video on this topic now - and will send to you shortly.
Mike
Thanks Michael!
Your answer led me into some experimenting.
I would like to avoid adding specific users to the data connection associations, so instead I did:
Awesome - yes - that is one of number of ways this can be achieved. The security rules engine is very flexible. I appreciate your willingness to explore and try it out, great job.
The video I am creating uses Active Directory groups pulled in from the user directory connector, and then locks the data connection down to those groups.
Mike
Hi Michael - can you send us a link to this video? Thanks!
Hey Shyam,
You can see it here:

Here is the main index for the platform videos:
New to Qlik Sense Enterprise Server Videos
- they are a bit older but should still be applicable. Since the release of Qlik Sense I am on the Cloud and Freemium team, so I don't get a chance to create many platform videos, but will try to when I can.

@Michael_Tarallo Can please share the video you created for providing access to the Qlik Data connection with help of Active Directory groups.
I need to provide access to my developer team to access the data connection created from my end. I tried with the above-mentioned links which are not currently accessible.

For anyone that's interested, I had the same problem with a Data Connection that was not visible to other developers, even though I have given them ContentAdmin. I discovered that the ContentAdmin rule was restricted to the QMC and not the Hub, so the problem was fixed by expanding the context option to "QMC and the Hub".
