Hi Nithin007, Are you referring to tiers? If so please review this link:

Hi Nithin007, do you have any example to explain the meaning of 4 tire architeture?

marcus_sommer

A classical 3-tier data-architecture is:

generator --> data-model --> report

By a 4-tier data-architecture it might be:

extractor --> generator --> data-model --> report

There are no exact rules how they are named or what they are doing exactly and how many of the layers are implemented. It's just an approach to structure the division of work in a systematically way.

By bigger environments and/or complex requirements you may need more as a dozens to separate the layers in a strict way. Therefore the most companies are using more pragmatically approaches by using 1-tier to 5-tier architectures depending on the specific use-cases.

what is the differenc between Extractor and generator

marcus_sommer

An extractor may just pull data and storing them without any transformation as qvd. A generator may then access these qvd and apply various cleaning/filling/mapping/aggregation/other stuff measures and storing these results again in qvd's (like above mentioned each single step might be done within an own layer).
