Instructions for how to use Windows Performance Monitor to log resource utilization on a QlikView Server server.

  1. Start Windows Performance Monitor and navigate to Data Collector Sets – User Defined.

  2. Right-click in the right-hand pane and select “Create new” - “Data Collector Set”, label accordingly and select “Create manually”, then “next”

    Create new Data Collector Set.png

  3. In the next screen select “Create data logs” and select “Performance counters and then press “next”

    Create data logs.png

  4. In this step, you will select the performance counters relevant to the investigation at hand. In this case, we are trying to troubleshoot QlikView Server performance, so we select according to the screenshot:

    choose the counters.png

  5. Then press “Ok”

Next screen lets us select the sample interval, and we want relatively granular data so we set 5 seconds. Then press “Next”

  6. Next step is to select where to store the data logged. I accept the default location and press “Next”

    save to.png

  7. Then select “Save and close” and “Finish”

  8. Then double-click on the newly created Data Collector set.

    select your data collector set.png

  9. And the last step is to right-click on the name of the data collector set we have just created and select “Start”

Leave the collector set running until the issue has been reproduced, remember to record timestamps for the issue so we can correlate against recorded server performance at that time.

When the issue has been reproduced, Qlik Support wants the time stamp for the issue, the user name for the user that encountered the issue, the Data Collector log file in .csv format and all the QlikView server logs.
