NPrinting Scheduler service navigator timeouts may result in occasional Publish Task failure or 'warning' messages

Found in:

  • NPrinting June 2020 (also affects earlier versions)

Solution (interim workaround): Update and modify the NPrinting scheduler.config file

The following setting forces the internal NP scheduler/connection navigator to close when the requests from earlier tasks have completed.  Essentially, this overrides the default behavior of leaving connections open. It allows memory to be released back to the system

  • stop the NPrinting Scheduler service
  • open the NPrinting Scheduler.config file found in "c:\program files\nprintingserver\nprinting\scheduler" (make a backup copy of the scheduler.config file before proceeding)
  • Within the Scheduler Options section: Insert the following line above the </appSettings> tag as shown in the image below

<add key="force-unused-resolvers-closure-policy" value="2" />

  • Save the file and close
  • Restart all the NPrinting services

Note:

This option has 3 values:
"0": that is the default value, means do not force a shutdown of currently opened resolvers/navigators (apart if there are other connections that needs to use system resources);
"1": force a shutdown of all opened resolvers/navigators (so all Sense apps/Qv documents opened) when the system is "idle" (i.e., when all the rows in admin/plan page have 0 requests);
"2": force a shutdown of all opened resolvers/navigator on a certain connection as soon as that connection reach 0 requests

Cause of this issue:

  • Tasks scheduled at different hours and the NPrinting connection navigators are found to be in timeout status within the NP scheduler service. Result that the NP connection navigator session to Qlik Sense was expired in turn causing the task failure or warning messages. (Further, selections were not cleared properly which lead to a false logging message that the issue was related to a bookmark/filter.)
  • Software defect regarding this issue: OP-9426 and or OP-9406

Permanent resolution

  • This issue is expected for resolution and may be included in the September 2020 release of NPrinting or later release.
  • Please return to this article for updates or check future NPrinting product release notes for fixes OP-9426 and or OP-9406
