ODBC connection to SQL Server fails with error:

Error: SQL##f - SqlState: 08001, ErrorCode: 17, ErrorMsg: [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]SQL Server does not exist or access denied

Environments:

• QlikView  
• Qlik Sense Enterprise on Windows  

Resolution:

The error indicates no access to the database, most often caused by:

1. Incorrect user permissions; No access to the server due to invalid credentials or no permissions granted
2. Network stability issues; Database server not available due to network outage or routing issues
3. Environment configuration; Database server set up does not allow for connectivity
