Qlik Cloud (Qlik Sense) is incompatible with outdated and non-supported versions of Microsoft SQL Server and cannot utilize them as a data source.
Microsoft SQL Server 2012 and earlier are not supported by Microsoft (see SQL Server lifecycle dates). If you are unclear which version of SQL Server you have, use one of the methods described in this Microsoft article.
The Qlik Cloud Analytics connector for Microsoft SQL Server officially supports versions 2014 through 2022.
To continue using the Microsoft SQL Server connector in Qlik Cloud Analytics you must ensure that your environment is on a supported Microsoft SQL Server version within a supported version of the operating system. For reference and details, review the Microsoft online documentation pages on how to upgrade SQL Server.
You also have the option to move your on-premises Microsoft SQL Server to Azure SQL Database. This cloud version uses the same database engine, which is continuously improved and upgraded in Microsoft Azure. Qlik Cloud Analytics already has a dedicated connector for Azure SQL Database.
This issue with older versions of Microsoft SQL Server is an excellent example of why Qlik recommends that sources being accessed by Qlik Cloud Analytics are kept up-to-date. Using a recent version enables you to:

Meu SQL é versão 2016 e até hoje (16/08/23) estava funcionado até as 08hs. Depois começou a dar erro de conexão.
Esse é exemplo da conexão:
E o erro que começou a aparecer:
Hi, I have the same problem. We updated to SQL Server 2014 on 10th August and it was working Ok until 16th August in the morning.
Hello all,
Have you set up the TLS to 1.2? If yes, what was the outcome?
Bear in mind is also mentioned:
" This update will also result in no support for TLS version 1.1 and earlier as well as any deprecated cryptographic functions."
Cheers,
Albert
We've the same issue, with SQL Server 2014 since 08/17/2023. Tried with all TLS versions available with no success.
Any news about it?
Hello @Jordi ,
Please make sure that TLS 1.0, 1.1 is disabled explicitly on the server and that only TLS 1.2 is enabled on the server. Also, make sure to use TLS 1.2 in the connection.
You can check the version of TLS being used on the MSSQL side to establish the connection using an extended event and do a live monitoring of the event to check the handshake.
Valeu
We are sure that server has TLS 1.0 and 1.1 disabled by default, and TLS 1.2 Enabled, althougth the connection still fails. So as @alex_carvalho said, problably the only way to solve the problem it will be upgrading server OS. But that's not explained on the "Outdated, out of support versions of Microsoft SQL Server and Qlik Cloud Analytics" post, and its a great problem.
Hi, we solved the error connection, installing SP2 on the SQL Server 2014 and enabling TLS 1.2.
Cheers,
Silvia
Thanks for the updates and hearing the connection is working again.
Thanks for sharing it!
