Qlik Data Gateway SAP connection failure: Unable to load DLL 'sapnwrfc' or one of its dependencies

Qlik Data Gateway - Direct Access connection to SAP fails with this internal error message:
Unable to load DLL 'sapnwrfc' or one of its dependencies: The specified module could not be found. (0x8007007E).

Environment

• Qlik Data Gateway version 1.2.0 and higher

Resolution

It is necessary to install SAP NetWeaver RFC SDK for Qlik Data Gateway - Direct Access. Complete instructions can be found here.

Moreover, SAP SDK requires VC++ 2013 runtime on the Qlik Data Gateway server. If not present, it can be installed following the instructions in this article.

Cause 

The error message is shown when these required installations are missing: SAP SDK requires VC++ 2013 runtime  and SAP NetWeaver RFC SDK.
