Qlik JIRA Connector: creating a new connection fails with error Failed on attempt 1 to GET (The remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized)

The following error may occur when creating a JIRA connection in either Qlik Sense Enterprise on Windows or Qlik Cloud Analytics:

Failed on attempt 1 to GET (The remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized.)

Resolution

Atlassian announced that basic authentication (username-password) and cookie-based authentication are depreciated. From 3rd June 2019, connections to REST endpoint in JIRA or Confluence Cloud have to use an API token, OAuth, or Atlassian Connect. See Deprecation notice - Basic authentication with passwords and cookie-based authentication.

To authenticate successfully:

• For JIRA Server: use username and password 
  
  JIRA Server is not affected by basic authentication having been deprecated.
  
  
• For JIRA Cloud: use an email address in the username field and an API token in the password field.
  
  Ensure that the token is valid and has not yet expired.
  
  

Cause

The error is caused by either:

• A wrong or expired token
• A deprecated authentication method: Basic Authentication. See Deprecation notice - Basic authentication with passwords and cookie-based authentication for more information.
