Exporting a chart to PDF may lead to an exported file size of 0 or 1KB. The resulting file fails to open:

Failed to load PDF document

error failed to load PDF document.png

The file on disk is corrupted.

Resolution

The chart background style Shadow (Plot Area Background Style) has limitations when printing to PDF.

Two workarounds exist.

Workaround One, disable the Background Style:

  1. Right-click the chart
  2. Open Chart Properties
  3. Go to the Style tab
  4. Review the Plot Area Background Style
  5. Switch it away from Shadow

    plot area background style.png
  6. Apply the changes

Workaround Two, configure ShowPrinting:

  1. Open Settings.ini for Qlikview Desktop
    Typically stored in: C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\QlikTech\QlikView
  2. Below the [Settings 7] section, add the following parameter:
    [Settings 7]
    SlowPrinting=1
