The primary function of the Computer Browser Service is to provide a list of computers sharing resources in a client's domain along with a list of other domain and workgroup names across the wide-area network (WAN).
On each network segment, a master browser is elected from the group of computers located on the segment that are running the browser service.
In a Windows domain structure, the Domain Controller is always selected as the domain master browser. If the Computer Browser Service is not present on the Domain Controller, a domain master browser is not available and you are unable to obtain a list of domains on the network.
Alternatively, make sure the Computer Browser service is running on the Domain Controller in the domain, if using Active Directory to authenticate users. By default, this service is disabled in Windows 2008 and above.
If the Computer Browser service cannot be enabled, credentials for the service account must to be set manually on the services after the installation is completed.
