Port 4998 closed

Hello,

We have nprinting May 22 installed.

I recently changed the app.conf files in order to

a) keep only TLS 1.2

b) remove some ciphers that cause vulnerabilities, according to our security reports.

Now, we noticed that port 4998 is closed - I don't know what has caused this.

I read that port 4998 is used for licensing. However, I didn't notice any issue in nprinting.

Could you please tell me

a) if the port must be open and

b) if it's not, what are the problems that it may cause and how can I check that?

I upload config files and logs, in case you need them.

Thank you,

Nikos

@nskatzis Good morning.

                 A) Yes, port 4998 is needed for Qlik Licensing services See the following online help: https://help.qlik.com/en-US/nprinting/May2022/Content/NPrinting/DeployingQVNprinting/Ports.htm#:~:te...

If that port stays closed it may cause your Nprinting license to go offline at some point.

Hello,

I finally made it to include ciphers in license.config and port 4998 to remain open.

Thank you all,

Nikos

Hi Lucas,

Thank you for answering.

Do you think of a way why the port closed while it was open some days ago?

Is it possible that my change to license config file regarding the ciphers to cause that?

Thank you,

Nikos

Hello again,

After some investigation, I noticed that if I apply cipher rules in license.config, the port 4998 close.

The rules are applied according to that

https://community.qlik.com/t5/Official-Support-Articles/How-to-configure-specific-ciphers-for-the-Ql...

I have tested twice:

First time with alot of ciphers, 2nd time only with the two ciphers of the example (included)

When I revert the org license.config, port 4998 opens.

Thans,

Nikos

Hi,

I have not understood what the question is. Could you details?

Port 4998 is the one of the License Service and the firewall must be configured accordig to https://help.qlik.com/en-US/nprinting/May2022/Content/NPrinting/DeployingQVNprinting/Ports.htm#ancho...

The port number is not related to the selected chiper suite.

Best REgards,

Ruggero

Hello,

When I configure C:\Program Files\NPrintingServer\NPrinting\License\license.config and add ciphers (as you see in attached license.config file), port 4998 closes.

Thank you,

Nikos

Hi,

In %Programdata%\Nprinting\license\logs you will find logs, maybe there is a more explicative message.

Ruggero
