Failed to load CDC Log file

We're using CDC with Qlik Replicate (2021.11.0.266) and it was working OK until we got the following error message in our logs: Log file access failed with status '5'. Any ideas what this failed status means? and how to fix it?

Hi Lyka,

I set the Replicate task log to Verbose and after reviewing it I saw that there was an error line "Cannot open file..." followed by another line with error message "Failed to load the log file...". I reached out our system admins and it seems like a process overwrote our permission to read the log files. After getting the permission fixed I was able to restart the task at the failed timestamp and get the loads process.

Thanks!

Hello,

What is the source and target endpoint? Is the error on full load or cdc? Can you check the task log and let us know what is the Replicate component where it failed?  Can you share that line from the log?

It may be beneficial if you open a support case so you upload your diagnostic package and logs for further review

Thanks

Lyka

Hi,

Source is SAP HANA and Target is MS SQL Server. The error is when doing CDC only. We have setup SAP HANA source endpoint using log-based CDC reading changes from backup log only. That task itself doesn't fail, but this is an excerpt from the logs when log trace is changed from Info to Verbose:

00009984: 2022-03-28T14:48:16:112524 [SOURCE_CAPTURE ]T: Reloading log file: '[CDC_LOG_FILE]' (saphana_cdc_log_reader.c:1403)
00009984: 2022-03-28T14:48:16:112524 [SOURCE_CAPTURE ]V: Log file access failed with status '5' (saphana_log_file.c:101)
00009984: 2022-03-28T14:48:16:112524 [SOURCE_CAPTURE ]T: Cannot open file '[CDC_LOG_FILE]' [1024400] (saphana_log_file.c:118)
00009984: 2022-03-28T14:48:16:112524 [SOURCE_CAPTURE ]T: Failed to load the log file '[CDC_LOG_FILE]' [1024400] (saphana_cdc_log_reader.c:1417)
00009984: 2022-03-28T14:48:17:128150 [SOURCE_CAPTURE ]T: No file is loaded (saphana_cdc_log_reader.c:887)
00009984: 2022-03-28T14:48:17:128150 [SOURCE_CAPTURE ]V: Next packet not in file (saphana_cdc_log_parser.c:554)
00009984: 2022-03-28T14:48:18:133094 [SOURCE_CAPTURE ]T: Try to find log position '131949882624' in 'Backup' Logs (saphana_cdc_log_reader.c:394)

Our service account has proper permissions to read the log files and as mentioned earlier all was working OK. We have opened a ticket, but PS suggested to come to the community too.

Thanks.

Hello,

Are you able to reproduce the issue at will?

If yes, please set source_capture to verbose at the start of the task and make sure that you disable the option "Store trace/verbose logging in memory, but if an error occurs write to the logs"

Please attach the log to the case and we will provide updates on that case.

Thanks

Lyka
