Data Model diagram does not display correctly in QlikView 12.40 SR1 and Windows Server 2008 R2

We recently upgraded to QlikView 12.40 SR1 across our entire environment.  Many of our developers perform development by using Remote Desktop to login to a development environment set up for them, which uses Windows Server 2008 R2.

On this system, when we press Control-M to bring up the Data Model, it displays an unusable diagram:

This problem does not occur in newer versions of Windows Server.  It did not occur with QlikView Desktop Client 12.20 SR4

Is there some quick fix for this?  Is there a missing software component that we could install and have the diagrams display properly?
