How to migrate publisher and tasks from one server to another?

Hi,

I have:

- one productive (old) Server mit QlikView 11.2 and QlikView Server and Publisher License

- a new Server with QlikView 12 installed and QlikView Server Test License

The aim is to migrate Tasks from QV 11.2 Server to QV 12 Server and then activate the QV 12 Server as new productive Server. That means to upgrade QVS and Publisher license. Important is a minimum downtime. It is not possible to upgrade the QV 11.2 Server and so it is not possible to migrate Tasks with copying the QVPR Folder.

What is best practice for migration between two Servers with different QV Versions?

If Migration Fails and I had upgraded Publisher license, can I go back to old QV 11.2 Server and activate it again? With old (not upgraded) Publisher and QVS license?

Regards,

Sandra

After copying your QVPR to the new 12.10 machine, you may need to edit a small number of QVPR configuration files as they probably contain references to the old machine name.

If you had a separate license for the 12.10 environment, you should be able to copy the QVPR folder over. Shut down the 11.20 environment and bring up the 12.10. Later, update the license.

Make sure you read the release notes and the help.qlik.com

Keep in mind the date consistency (more info in the release notes and help site)

Hi Fabrice,

that means I can simply copy documentSourceFolder from the 11.2 Server to 12.10 Server and copy also the QVPR-Folder from 11.2 Server to 12.10 Folder, upgrade the license and start the 12.10 Server and all Tasks will be imported and working? In qlik-help I only found some description for Migration between different Servers but not between different Servers with different Versions of QlikView.

What does it mean "separate license for the 12.10 Environment"? I have only qvs-testserver license on the 12.10 Server because production has Server and Publisher license.

Sandra

Hello Peter,

with copying the QVPR-folder all configuration I made is lost!? And if there are new features or renamed tags or added tags in configuration files in QVPR, what happens? It sounds if it is not a clean way, only to import or copy the Tasks from an 11.2 Server to an 12 Server.

General server configuration details are not stored in the QVPR. QVPR contains all QDS stuff, task definitions, triggers and such.

Indeed, it isn't a clean way to copy tasks from one machine to another. It's more like a hack, assembled by Community members and Qlik support personnel.

Did you follow the steps to modify server references in the xml files?

Hi, this might give some more information about where tasks are being configured in DistributionService:
