Is it possible to get a "Shared File Editor" in Powertools next to the Viewer and Repair?

The feature in Powertools to view the .shared file is very usefull to pinpoint the source issue. But it would be a great for administrators to be able to change all the bookmarks at once. For example the <OneAndOnlyOne> parameter is set to true and you want to edit this to false. Is this possible and if so is this an enhancement you are willing to look at?

Regards,

Patrick

No, I haven't seen this until now. Thanks for letting me know.

I'll take look tomorrow when I have time. Meanwhile;

* What version of QlikView Server are you using? Version + SR

* Can you post a screendump?

My QV Server is 11.20 SR2.

With 1.1 Version I can select a qvw file but when the it starts reading (rendering) the .Shared file objects it never ends until the application stops responding. It is a 150 Mb file with more than 3000 objects...

With version 1.2, when I click "Browse documents" the pop-up window opens empty:

Ariel,

I've found a bug in the code that handled the credentials sent to the server, it must have been introduced in the version published in 1.2. I'm going to test the fix a bit and then try and issue a patch on Power Tools 1.2 with this included.

Thanks for reporting this!

A new version with a fix for this issue in Server Object Handler is now in place. I've updated the package on the official page for Power Tools 1.2: Power Tools 1.2 for QlikView

Stefan,

Now I could delete all objects from inactive users. It worked fine!

After that I needed to defrag the .Shared files because it stayed at the same size.

I used the SharedFile Viewer's defrag feature for that and I was wondering what is the difference with the repair command of QV11 SR4 QVS.EXE.

Thank you very much for your quick response!

Ariel,

The defrag functionality just re-orders objects to save space in the (binary) .shared file. Please be careful with this functionality, since it is not a supported function.

The repair functionality in 11.20 SR4 is a supported functionality, and is different because it tries to repair/remove broken/orphaned objects.

Stefan,

Do you know why there is no supported defrag function? I mean, you can remove Shared Objects through the QMC but the .Shared file size doesn't change and it doesn't make sense.

With your Server Object Handler I was able to remove many server objects from inactive users. After that, I applied defrag function from SharedFile Viewer and it's size reduced 33%! (from 150Mb to 100Mb).

I believe that a supported defrag function should be provided by QlikView.

Ariel,

We are evaluating the need for a defrag functionality, but I have no information on when this can (or if it will) be a supported function. Sorry. But the behavior is still correct and by design; removal of an object does not make the file smaller.

In any case, I think that the gains with defrag of the .shared files is mostly relevant in really large files, because this is where the effects will be more noticeable. That has to be tested, obviously.

I'm wondering if it is possible with the Server Object Handler to delete values of InputFieldValues from the shared file.  In looking at the Server Object Handler alongside the Shared File Viewer, I'm not seeing these values populate, so I can't remove them.  Does anyone else have any experience in removing these values from the shared file, as we have a shared file that is 600 MB's and around 500 of that is due to these InputFieldValues.  We would really like to not have to just delete the shared file and have the users recreate all of their bookmarks.  We have fixed the issue that caused this in the first place, now we need to figure out a way to fix the shared file.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Hi Stefan,

Thank you so much for the responses and dedication on making our lives better.

I'm just wandering if could you make the source-code of the ServerObjectHandler available for me. I need some extra functionalities that I use over and over again and I want to automate it in a couple of ways. The source code would give me a head-start on some of the features.

BTW, I'm comfortable with coding for .NET C#, C and C++. But I'm not prejudice whatever's the language you're using I'm pretty sure I can extract the content I need from it.

Please, let me know if this is possible... and I thank you in advance for the time and great support you've been giving to this unsupported tool.

   Best regards

Dan
