Looking for help with new Notes & Annotations tool

I have heard customers comment that they don't use the QV Notes feature because they have to go looking for Notes. They want something like a "push" or digest feature. I'm developing a qvw that collects the Notes/Annotations into threads, and possibly alerts subscribers to updated threads.

At this point I need some real data to continue testing with. I don't have many Notes on my test server and I don't have current access to any customers who make use of the notes feature.

Is there anyone with real notes (or a consultant with customer who does) who would be willing to collaborate with me? I ship you the tool, you run it and send me the output. You can scramble the output so no customer data is sent to me. In return you get early access to the tool and an opportunity to guide it's development towards the features you want.

Respond here or PM me if you're interested.

Thanks,

Rob

Sorry Rob,

I don't even know what QV Notes is.

I only wish I could help, as you do so much to help us!

Hi Alan,

The "Notes" feature is what used to be called the "Annotations" feature. It was introduced in QV11 and allows server users to attach comments to charts.

Hi Rob,

We have tested it. But unfortunately we are not using it since it increases the .shared file and creates performance issues.

Our requirement is to allow Analysts to enter comments on the financial data displayed in QV. The comments should be obviously visible and allow other people to edit them easily.

I have been playing with the QvServerObjectConnector to display AnnotationTopic objects in a table box with some other associated dimensions. While this is a much easier way for users to see notes associated with an object (rather than right clicking every object and "Viewing Attached Notes"), it doesn't allow for a comment to be added easily or to see the associated object or bookmark.

Additionally, I was also trying to find a way to trigger an alert (either within the dashboard or maybe with an email) when a new annotation or comment was entered.

This is a feature that we would much prefer be within QV as opposed to utilizing SharePoint for entering comments and feeding data into our data warehouse.

I wonder how much performance would be an issue based on the last comment.

I am willing to help however I can!

Thanks again,

Cassandra

To do something like you described, I think you'll need a third party addon. Perhaps klikins or some other extension that can do write backs to a data base.

Are you interested in running some of my code to see what we can come up with?
