Add Currency symbol to axis units, without using the 'Symbol' field

I want to add a '$' to units on the x or y axis. But I don't want to use the 'Symbol' field on the Number tab. Using the Static Step on Axes tab will add the '$' to the units, but then I am locked in with static units (of course). Is there another way to add the currency symbol to the units?

you could use num(Field,'$###') as Field in your script when you load the table. when you use Field as dimension, it will show $ signs in labels.
