Adding Comments

I need the ability for a user to add some comments into an app before it is published to the company at large.  The comments need to be dynamic in the sense that when someone selects a week it shows the relevant comment from that week.  What would be the best way to achieve this?

I have thought about input boxes but would an external source (ie Excel spreadsheet) be easier?

Thanks

Hi Adrian,

I used an Excel-Sheet for this before.
You only have to make sure your comment has the relevant Dimensions for the correct key. In your example it would be the week. Make sure your key has the exact same format as the field in the application.
I often use the text()-function to make sure it is the same. (e.g. 34/2014)

One more hint:
for further dimensions an their values I use dropdown-lists in excel to make sure the values are spelled correctly to match the key dimensions.

Hi,

You could use Text boxes in a container and you can set Enable Condition according to the way you want such as =GetCurrentSelections(Month)='Apr'

So notes in text box would appear only when you select a Month or you may use any other field.

thanx

Hi,

use the ApplyMap() function for this. Load an Excel_sheet with the comments and whatever dimension there is (two fields) as a mapping_table and load the comment with ApplyMap(). Then you can show it in a textbox - and you can of course still enable a visibility_condition for the textbox as a whole so that the users can choose whether or not to review the comments and so on.

That's not a very clever solution because:

a) The developer would need to add a textbox for each month (12 objects + container).

b) A complicated expression would need to be written to include the comment and its date in an appropriate formatting within the textbox. If you're having multiple comments we're talking about a calculation-intensive "concat()" function.

b) Comments of April 2013 and April 2014 would be displayed in the same textbox, possibly confusing the user.

I strongly recommend using an Excel sheet to add the comments and display everything within a straight table in QV
