Button as a filter

I am looking to create buttons that will filter a Budget field by certain values.  For example, i would like to create a button that when clicked filters projects that only have a Budget of $1 - 1000, another button for $1001 - 5000 and so on.  Which type of action would i use?  How would I code this condition?
