Hello everyone,
I have the following shapes in a .ppt document (every country in the world as an individual shape):
I would like to copy these shapes into my Qlikview document, but I am running into problems. The only method that allows me to do this, is saving every individual shape as a .png document and then creating a text object in Qlikview and then make it an image.
The problem with this method is that I don't get the same spacing as my original shapes and I have to place every single country by hand. As you can imagine this is very time consuming and not easy/accurate at all (because .ppt doesn't use pixel placement). So I was wondering, is there an easier/better way to achieve this?
Just to be clear, it is a requirement that all the countries become their own object, so I can individually manipulate each country in Qlikview.
(I also want to put them in a single container so I can manipulate them all at the same time. Any things to consider when doing this?)
Thanks in advance,
Casper
Another question:
Is there any way for me to change the colour of this shape when it's in Qlikview?
Hello, Casper!
The method that you had described (using text boxes) - is the only way to do that.
But, I can give you a little advice, how to decrease a struggle with country matching:
Create one big text box with all countries (a map) after that you will be able to land each country on their places easily.
Yes, it will take a time, but it's kinda puzzle. Have fun 😃

That's a good tip! Thanks
Any idea regarding my second question?
Is there any way for me to change the colour of this shape when it's in Qlikview?
Because as far as I can see, you can't change the colour of an image in Qlikview. What I could do, is make text objects in the shape of countries and then use these to fill in the worldmap (because you can change the colour of text objects that don't have an image attached).
How about looking for a mapping extension that would allow you to use coordinates to draw the shape of the countries. You should then be able to manipulate the colors as well. Do a search for mapping extensions there are plenty or free ones available for you to play with to see if it fits your needs.
Also check branch.qlik.com.
Good luck

Good suggestion, but I am looking for something that I can use without enabling Webview in Qlikview. Before this I used SVGMap, but I don't want to use that anymore because it makes my entire qlikview document way slower. So instead of SVGMap/webview I am trying to make something similar by using a lot of objects and variables.
In the What's New in Qlikview11 example application they had a way of using a scatter chart example. You may want to look to see what was going on there. Again, trying to stay away from using too many objects and trying to maintain and control, which could be a nightmare.

Good suggestion, just looked at it and it looks promising, no Webview and still a nice map.
Again, trying to stay away from using too many objects and trying to maintain and control, which could be a nightmare.
If I have no choice I have to, but I think I can maintain control by naming everything from the start a certain way and by using a lot of containers. So every container would be a country consisting of multiple objects. And as far as I know, even if I have 1000 objects, it doesn't really hinder Qlikviews performance.
If I imagine it right you need a color changing when some countries are selected. This could be solved with one big textbox (as I wrote above), where all countries are grey and other red colored puzzle-coutries, but I would make them invisible (you can set a condition of showing the object on the Layout tab). So, you'll have to create 1 object - list of countries, 1 map and X-number of textboxes for countries with condition of appearing. Yes, it's a huge amount of object, and yes it will slow down your project, and you probably will have to spend some time on it. But it has more options than a scatter chart. But the choice is yours, of course.
Thanks for thinking with me, really appreciate it.
I thought of another option:
What you see here is an object with an image that has the world and all the countries transparent. If I place an object behind a country, it let's part of it through, so you see a certain colour that I can easily change with a variable. The problem with this idea is that I can't click on the country, because the top object is always the world map with the transparant countries. Is there a way for an object to be on top, but when you click you don't select that object, but the object behind it? For example, in the picture I can't select the blue box behind the map, but I would like to (without showing the entire blue square).
Regarding your idea:

It's a good idea, but the problem is that I want to be able to make the countries all kind of colours, and not be restricted by a few pre selected colours. Basically I want to be able to control the colour of the shape and that can't be pre determined. The reason for this is, is that I want to change the colour depending on selections in the rest of my qlikview document.
