Can you create conditional dimensions using Alternate States in QV 11

Can you create a Conditional Dimension utilizing QV 11's Alternate States?

I want an accounting code to display if it is from Period 1 but not from Period 2 so do I use an IF THEN statement?

I need to display two dimensions, not use list boxes and display expressions with data from both states.

"What's New in QV 11" 's conditional dimension example is not what I am looking for.

These accounting codes change every period so I can not use them.
