Default text in calender control

Hey guys,i am using calender control to filter out my records in table box.when i select some date,date is shown in calnder control and on its basis records gets selected in table box,When no date is selected ,it calender control shows multiple dots(.... ).I want to show some text(like select date etc) when no date is selected.Is it possible?

How I can do this.
