Document Analyzer V2 -- a major update

I've posted a major update "V2" to the Document Analyzer tool. It is available for download in the Tools section of QlikviewCookbook.com here Document Analyzer.

The primary function of Document Analyzer remains to identify unused fields that can be removed from your model. It has been expanded to assist in identifying slow charts.

There are a number of improvements over the 1.15 version, including bug fixes, a new UI, object calc times and improved analysis of variable and expression usage.

An important change is that only qvws that have been saved in QV10SR2 or later may be analyzed with this version. If you need to analyze an older document, save it first in QV10.

if a prj directory exists, it will be leveraged for the analysis. This can speed up the analysis run for documents with a lot of objects.

Use this thread if you have comments or questions. Enjoy.

Great App!

Where would the correct place to ask questions regarding the document analyzer be?

Hope its ok to ask here.

I get an error - something like "There are some issues with project references. Please read project log.." I press "ok" and then the analyzed document opens and nothing happens for a very long time but I can see that Qlikview is busy but I dont know if the analyzer is loading...

Any advice?

Best regards,

Cris

It sounds like a problem with the -prj directory. Can you try running it without a -prj directory?

Hi MR_Novice and Rob,

I faced the same issue and in my case it happened due to the fact that names of some of objects (chart, list, etc) contained "." and in this case the -prj folder contains incorrect filenames which (by logic) should equal to object ids.

For instance, object "02.02.00" was serialized into a file with name "02%2E00%2E00.xml", so a dot "." transformed into "%2E" (if I remember correctly).

Please check, may be this is the reason in your case.

Ah, and, of course, Rob, thank you for the tool!!! I tried to modify its macro but it looks like the message is produced by QV itself on the document opening.

So I had to change all object names with ".". Sad, but true.

Best regards,

Maxim

Thanks for the info Maxim. -prj files have a few surprises.

Hello Rob,

Just downloaded the DocumentAnalyzer from QlikCookBook. I am using QlikView X64 Ver 11.2

I first overcome the security issue and after providing the file path, I click on Extract Metadata button, and it offered me to generate the prj folder which I did and it generated the prj folder successfully. Now when I click the Extract Metadata button nothing happens. Assuming that it has done what it is suppose to do, when I try to refresh the document I see the following error:

I am wondering, if there is any confirmation pop-up after clicking the Extract Metadata button that tells that extraction is completed and now we can reload the document or we just reload the document after clicking the extract button.

Thanks.

Never mind Rob. The Extract Metadata button starts working after I click this button. Thanks a lot. Personally I think you have a huge contribution towards the success of QlikTech.

Great, Rob! 🙂

I downloaded this, entered a filename to analyze and I get an error:

Cannot open file 'C:\Users\JIM~1.AND\AppData\Local\Temp\DocumentAnalyzer.log' The system cannot find the file specified.

Plus, the "Extract Metadata" button seems to be disabled.

What am I doing wrong?

I've been getting the same thing!

‌The extract metadata button must be run first before the reload. The extract button is disabled if the qvw to be analyzed is not found. Try pasting the full path to the qvw in the input box and then press enter. The extract button should then be enabled. Press it, wait, and when the "extract complete" popup is displayed, press the reload button.
