Export to Excel dumps a garbled mess into notepad

Pretty much as the title suggests, I'm running QV10 SR1`on a server and for now I'm just exporting a chart in the developer application until the server issues are resolved (long story!).

For some reason, when I click the "export to excel" on any chart object, it simply dumps the xls into notepad, so I end up with a unintelligible mess of characters.

Excel 2000 has just been installed on the server which is running Windows Server 2008, could this just be a windows problem?

Many Thanks.

I had this issue recently and it was happening because someone had changed the default program for .xls files to notepad. I changed the file association in the control panel to be excel for .xls files and it was fixed.
