Finding values related to a date closest to a given date

Hi All,

I would like some help with the following problem.

The data structure is

ID Date Value

0 2009-01-01 9
1 2009-07-01 12
2 2009-10-01 29

When provided a certain date (Date A), I need to find a date closest Date A and the associated value.

For example, if provided date is 2009-08-01, then the chart should show the Date and Value of ID=1.

I think I need to perform some set analysis, but do not how to go abouts. Any help will be appreciated! Thanks!
