Getting months from fields that have dates as 2017/01/01

Hi guys, I have a two fields that have dates ranging from January 2017 up until May 2018 in the following format 2017/01/01. I want to display leave taken in a monthly view. How do I get these dates to reflect as months (May 2018) in terms of creating an expression?

May be MonthStart() helps
