Hierarchies - how to use ancestors table

Hi,

I have sucessfully created the expanded nodes table and ancestors table in qlikview V10.

But I don't know how I should be using the ancestors table in any reports. What is it for? The reference manual doesn't really help - says something about selecting entire trees but this doesn't seem to work.

Thanks

I'm not a huge expert in hierarchies, but if I understand correctly, when you select an Ancestor (for example, "Europe"), then all the data associated with any of the European countries, should be selected (or associated).

Is that what you are looking for? Or, in other words - what kind of functionality are you looking for, when using the hierarchy?

I have created a tree view using a list box.

When I select a parent node in this tree, it only gives me data attributed directly to that node, rather than giving me data for that node and all child nodes, which is what I was sort of expecting with the ancestors data.

So I'm looking for a way to sort of 'roll up' the data from lower levels of a hierarchy to higher levels.

This is what I was expecting the ancestors table to do, somehow.

Additionally (and this may need to be a separate question), in the tree view list box, it doesn't open the branches to show what is selected. So for example if the tree is fully closed, and I make a selection of something elsewhere on the screen, I expected the tree view to open those branches which are applicable to the selection, but it doesn't.

Regarding the first issue - please note that when the branch is collapsed, clicking a node selects all of it's child, but when it is expended you need to explictly select it's child.
