How to..Default a Selection and restrict access for Users - Can I Conditionally lock a field

I would like for a User to be able to open a QVW file but based on their UserID, pre-select a "BRANCH" field selection and then not allow them to change this BRANCH field.

I have figured out that I can use the Sheet property triggers to add Triggers to "Select In field" the value of a BRANCH variable I set if it exists. I can then set another trigger to lock the field.

One thing I don't know how to do and if it is possible is there is also a field to lock a field but I only want to do this conditionally... ie - if a BRANCH was found and selected. Is this possible please as it is only certain users that are restricted to seeing one branch. I am guessing I may have to write a custom action?

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks

hi ,

Use Section Access to acheive it.

How it works.

You can provide user access access of data based on Area, Branch, City or product.

for eg : if A USER has BRANCH : Mumbai then he will be able to see only that data.

If you need more help on this let us know.

Thanks Karthikg and Deepak for your responses and help links.

Have had a quick read and at first it seemed like the access was restricting editing within the QVW file itself, as opposed to changing selection on a "published" version, which maybe I did not make clear.

Example 6 seems like this may be possible to prevent selection of certain values to certain users so will play around now and let you know.

Thanks again!

Cheers
