How to make an input box change a string of a field?

Hi,

I have a chart which breaks down the gap between demand and supply for the number of people in an organisation by pay band and month. I'm trying to have an input box which allows the user to change the values of particular paybands. E.g. input 20 into PB4 input box and it increases/decreases the number of people in PB4 without changing other paybands.

Is this possible without using an inline load? The data is currently loaded from an excel which is updated each month so it can't be a fixed value.
