Hi,
I have one Sales.qvw which is scheduled daily in reload engine. The file is getting data from SQL database tables. But now the databases are migrated. And the database which is used in Sales.qvw is deleted form SQL server instance. so, obviously the qvw is failed in reload engine. I want to remove sales.qvw completely from the Live folder and reload engine. There are two document CALs assinged to Sales.qvw. Could any let me know how to remove the file completely form live folder and from reload engine. Will it effect to any ServerCounters.pgo.CalData.pgo,Inidata.pgo, TicketData.pgo if I remove Sales qvw file. Will I get Document CAL count back if I remove it. i,e for eg: I have 10 document CALs in server in which 8 is assigned, so if I remove will I get those 2 document CAls back, so that I can able to see 6 document CALs in server.
Could anyone help me in this as I don't have much awareness of server functionality.
Thanks.
Well... First you have to go to Documents \ User Documents in the QlikView Management Console and select your Sales.qvw file. Then go to Document Cals and delete the cal assignments, don't forget to clic on Apply. Once you erased all the assignments you have to erase the document cals assigned to the Document by setting the "Number of CALs allocated to this Document" to 0, don'f forget to clic on Apply.
At this time you shoud wait some minutes in order to see your document cals restored in System\Licenses\QlikView Server\Client Access Licenses (cals), and then you can delete all tasks related to the Sales.qvw document from Documents \ Source Documents.
Once you do this, you can erase the .qvw files from the windows folders, especially the one in the User Documents directory so that it won't continue to appear on the AccessPoint.
Hope it helps.
Hi
I'm not sure on the CAL management side of things. However, to delete the job you need to have the relevant qvw still present on the server in the original location, otherwise it won't let you delete the job.
You do no need the original file, just save a blank qvw called Sales.qvw to the location and then delete the job. After which, you can then delete the qvw.
This is bit of an annoyance, hopefully this is something that gets ironed out with v12. Let me know how you get on.
Steve
Indeed, removing documents with CALs and tasks attached can be a hassle. (Follow the above steps and you're safe.) But that depends on the installed version of QVS. In SBS there is no way you can recover CALs or drop tasks when your document has disappeared or simply changed names.
In EE (Enterprise Edition) you have this <Orphans> construct in Source Documents in which lost documents are placed if they still have tasks or CALs attached. You can delete tasks and recover CALs overthere.

Edit: Of course, this is publisher-related, not server version. My mistake. Good to have Moderators. Thanks, Miguel.
Thanks for this and I don't have any source documents tab under documents and having only user documents. In this case could you tell me where can I remove all the tasks related to Sales.qvw.
Could you also let me know is there any negative effect or any deletion of CALs information if I remove this file?
Thanks.
So, I suppose you have Small Business Edition license. In that case you only have to remove the document cals and tasks from the Sales.qvw that you have in User Documents. In the Enterprise Edition you have Source and User Documents and tasks are assignated to Source Documents but Document Cals are located in User Documents, but It doesn't apply if you have SBE.
What could be the negative effects of losing, renaming or deleting a file in User Documents? Well... the most risky would be to lose the Document Cals that were assigned to that file and have some orphan or floating tasks that doesn't work, and of course the users would lose the access to the app.
But if this ever comes to happen to you, You can create a new qvw and name it with the original file name that had the doc cals and tasks assigned, it doesn't have to be the exact same file, and once you can see it in the Management Console you can delete the document cal assignments and also the tasks.
Hi,
Just to clarify, the Orphans folder corresponds to Publisher, not to the Enterprise Edition. Actually, you can deploy a SBE with Publisher.
Kind regards,
Miguel
If you are searching for an ultimate solution for completely removing files and folder from your system hard drive permanently, then you can take help of third party tool Kernel File Shredder is best option for you. The software make data of file useless, rename it, and then shreds it from the hard disk of system. You mentioned:
"In SBS there is no way you can recover CALs or drop tasks when your document has disappeared or simply changed names."
What does one do if they find themselves in this situation with SBE?
I have unmounted the folder with all my Doc CALs assigned, have remounted the folder and put blank files there in an attempt to be able to unassign the Doc CALs but that does not seem to work.
I guess the .pgo files store the info that I own the Doc CALs and that they are reserved, so is there a way to clear that out?
If you are running SBE here's how to get the orphaned CALs back.
